Whoops!

I seem to have forgotten all about my blogging duties lately! Despite my absence I have still been sewing up a storm, actually that's a lie, its been more like a small puff of wind.
But I have finished my Butterick dress that I was previously working on, however there are few minor adjustments I'd like to make to it before taking photos for you all.

I've also started working through all the fabric I picked up at Walthamstow Market, starting with this.
This is made using Simplicity 5645, which is the same pattern used for my blue leopard print shirt. I made sure to lengthen the tie this time so I could make a big bow. I've been wanting to incorporate more yellow into my wardrobe, and so far this has had quite a few appearances in my work wardrobe. This also ties in nicely with my Spring/Summer Palette Challenge

I'm also just about to start the muslin for my next little project, which is this beauty,
For the real thing I'm using some chocolate brown polka dot viscose, but for the moment i'm working with white crepe as I have a feeling i'll need to do some adjustments.
Wish me luck!

Film Inspiration: The Great Gatsby

I may be jumping on the bandwagon here, but I am ridiculously excited for release of the latest incarnation of 'The Great Gatsby', which is due to come out at the end of this year. I'm sure you've all heard about the Baz Luhrmann helmed movie, starring Leonardo DiCaprio, Carey Mulligan & Tobey Maguire.
I loved the book, and cannot wait to these actors portray the characters of Jay, Daisy & Nick. I'm also particularly excited about the fashion which will be shown, and cannot wait to see what visionary delights Luhrmann has in store for this.
The first trailer for the movie has been released, and in my humble opinion, it looks like it's going to be one of best movies of this year.
To get you 'in the mood' for this cinematic treat, I've scoured the internet for some images from the trailer and other fashion inspiration images involving this era to wet your appetite!

I think I'm definitely going to make a 1920's inspired piece, possibly some kind of sheer blouse, with pleats, or maybe some sparkle? Are you excited for this film? Have you read the book?

My Weekend In Photos & Walthamstow Finds

So this past weekend I spent celebrating my 25th birthday with a well deserved to trip to London organised by the husband. We went fabric shopping in the morning, followed by regular shopping in Covent Garden, dinner, a show (Jersey Boys), then a scenic walk. Followed by a BBQ & bike ride on the Sunday. I've been a very spoilt girl!

It was my first time at Walthamstow market and it did not disappoint! I've seen people talk about it on various blogs from the UK, but my lord, I wasn't ready for this! Pretty much everything is either £1 or £2 a metre, the most expensive thing I bought was some wool suiting at £3 per metre?! Crazy!
So I went in armed with a £50 budget and this is what I got...

I know you're curious to see a little better, so here's exactly what's included!

4 Metres Grey Herringbone Style Suiting

2 Metres Animal Print Linen Blend

4 Metres Thick Navy Cotton

2 Metres Strawberry Print Cotton

2 Metres Coral Linen Blend

1.5 Metres (I think? Found In Bargain Bin) Teal Georgette

2 Metres Geometric Print Viscose (I Think?)

3 Metres Golden Yellow Georgette

2 Metres Chocolate Polka Dot Viscose (I Think?)

1 Metre Mustard Wood Grain Viscose (I Think?)

2 Metres Diamond Print Cotton

I already have a few ideas up my sleeve as to what I'm gonna do with some of these, but if you were me, what you choose to make with what?
