Finished Project: Simplicity 4484

I'm a little bit in love with this nightdress! This was super quick to sew together and looks so adorable on, but I'm sparing you from seeing me wearing next to nothing, so Peg is modelling this week.

I do have a confession however, the straps are not meant to sewn the way I have done them. I got a little careless when trimming part of the seam allowance on one of the yokes and took a chuck of fabric with it.

After lots of swearing and foot stomping I figured the only way I could salvage it was by adding the straps to the outside instead of being sewn into the yoke.

But that aside, I'm happy with how this turned out. I was a little concerned with how short it may end up being, so I did add a bit of length on to the straps to make sure all modesty got covered.

As you can tell, I also decided to omit the lace. I am going to use it for this pattern, but just not for this version.



In other exciting sewing news I know for a fact a lot of you have taken a peek at the new patterns over at Colette! My favourite are the Iris shorts, I've been after a decent looking shorts pattern for a while so I think I may just have to treat myself! I'm also taking part in the Spring/Summer Palette Challenge which I'm excited about, and will be busy making my moodboard this weekend.

Simplicity 4484 Update

This has been quite a straight forward project to put together so far. I've got some topstitching left to do on the yokes, and the sides to seam as well as the hem.
But what I can't decide on are the straps.

I can't decide if I should attach some ruffled lace to them or not?

Overly girly? Or just right?

That's Sew Cinematic - Frenchie-Esque Nightie

Ever since this pattern arrived I've been itching to get started on it! Alas, my trip to the fabric shop was not so fruitful (sad face). I finally decided that I really wanted to use this fabric -

But when I got to the shop they only had it in stock in a cerise pink. Now you may not have noticed this about me before, but I am not a 'pink' girl. Red - yes, Pink - no.

So I bought this instead -

Some awesomely awesome georgette with pheasants & trees printed all over. BUT, once I got home I got a little attached to it and decided it wouldn't be fair on it if I limited its wear to indoors only. Other people should get to see its awesome-ness.

So as a little test run of this pattern before I buy the 'real' fabric I decided to finally cut into some lilac polka dot cotton that's been stashed away for what feels like forever!

I'm aware that it looks a little pinky, but trust me, in real life it's lilac. You are probably also wondering 'does she only buy fabric with polka dots on it?', I'm starting to wonder that too?!
Maybe I should try and go a whole month without sewing polka dots?
Anywho, I'm going to be sewing up just the short smock the girl on the left is modelling as I ran out of fabric to try the bloomers.
Plus, I'm also gonna be keeping an eye out for some cute yellow printed fabric to make up the 'real' version.

Sew Cinematic Inspiration Post: Slip

I have to admit, I'm not making a slip for this part of the challenge, I am however planning on sewing something very similar. I thought this would be the perfect opportunity to try something different and make something i've been thinking about for a long time. What is it?? I hear you gasp!?
It's nightwear!

I've been wanting to sew up some cute babydoll nighties for ages, but I've yet to find the right pattern, until now.



Simplicity 4484

 Another ebay bargain! For your viewing pleasure here are a few images I found through google when searching for inspiration.

So what film am I basing this on? It had to be Grease (again, I know!). The sleepover scene at Frenchie's house is so iconic, I have to try and re-create Frenchie's babydoll & bloomers!

The fabric choice for this should make it quite interesting, I am avoiding nylon like the plague so no authenticity for this challenge! However on the back of my pattern the suggested fabrics are as follows:  Cottons & blends, broadcloth, batiste, crepe, challis, gingham, lawn, seersucker, voile, rayons, silks, and synthetics.

I also don't want it to be plain, but I may sew up a yellow version like Frenchie's for the challenge and then make another one up using something more interesting.

For inspiration I had a quick look on the website of one of my local fabric stores to see what they have to offer, I mainly liked the chiffons & georgettes.

So there you go, another project to add to the growing list! But I have to ask, have any of you lovely readers ever sewn up nightwear? Any suggestions on what fabric to avoid?
