Things I Love Thursday

Even though I haven't been posting for a while, I haven't stopped following my favourite blogs, nor have I stopped finding new blogs to obsess over!

I thought it might be nice to share with you some of my personal favourites, and hopefully will inspire you to obsess over these too! (if you aren't already)

Things I Love Thursday

Apologies for lack of posting this week, but as you can probably tell from my last post I am being kept extremely busy with my most recent commission!

So far I have ordered the fabric which was delivered to me on Tuesday in a rather large and heavy parcel, which just about fit in the car! All pattern pieces have been draughted using a grading 'how to' I found on the internet (hopefully I did it right?!).

I started cutting out the pieces this evening and will continue with that tomorrow as well, so I will be ready to start sewing come Saturday!

So, another week in the blogging world!

There have been a couple of tutorials which really stuck out to me this week, and I am now dying to try them out! Gertie gave us an insight into how to pintuck your garment, which looks fabulous! And Carolyn showed us how to finish your garment with french seams, which looks so effective and left me wondering why I haven't been doing these?

I've also started thinking about my honeymoon wardrobe this week, and what items I want to try to make myself. In case I haven't mentioned I'm going to Hawaii for a week, followed by L.A, Vegas & San Fran the week after (you have no idea how excited I am!). What items do you recommend? What are your essential items of clothing for vacations?

Things I Love Thursday!

This week has been particularly special as my very close friend gave birth to her second child (and her second boy!) They named him Rufus, which I think is a gorgeous name! So hopefully in the next couple of weeks I'll get to go and have some cuddles after the family have all been round!

I've also got an awesome night lined up tomorrow, as it's a CBGB theme night with a couple of tribute bands honoring The Ramones & Blondie, which should be awesome! Just for fun, I've put together a little collage of my dream outfit in keeping with the CBGB punk theme!

It's also Armed Forces Day on 25th June here in the UK, and to celebrate the historic dockyard here in Portsmouth is transforming the area into a 1940s style street party, so I'm gonna drag Alex with me so I can wear my handmade 1947 dress from my previous post. They've also got live bands playing, a 1940s salon, and talks on the 'make do & mend' culture which should really interesting. They're also opening up all the ships for you to take a look around which I'm excited about!

I think I'm finally coming to the end of my cold after what feels like forever! So i'm hoping i'll have more energy next week to finish up some projects that have kind of stopped 3/4's of the way through!

Things I Love Thursdays

This week when I haven't been wrestling with elastic, I've been doing some more research into 1940s fashion in preparation for a possible clothing collection I really want to pursue. I found this book on amazon, which should arrive in the next couple of days

Does anyone have this already? It's got good reviews on the web, so i'm hoping this will give me a few ideas as what materials/designs were used during this time. 

I've also started following Fashionable Forties, which is a blog dedicated this style of clothing. I've been wanting to make my own collection for a while, and sewing clothes inspired from this decade just seems natural to me. I find it fascinating reading about the construction of clothing back then due to rationing, and their 'make do and mend' mantra. As soon as I finalise my designs i'll do a featured post on this endeavor!

Things I Love Thursdays

This week I have been loving trawling through some new/old blogs that I follow, and you know you've found a good one when you get to the end of the page and you can't stop yourself from clicking 'older posts'. I found myself doing that with Wayward Daughter, I especially loved her post featuring this dress;

This is part of a collection she is making and I think I've fallen in love with this dress. They sell this fabric in my local fabric shop and I may have to purchase a couple of metres!

I've also had a bit of a spree on Sew Direct, I couldn't help it! They have a 50% off Vogue Patterns sale at the moment and I've been eyeing up these vintage patterns for a while.

I also bought a couple of Butterick patterns and a McCalls!

With the Bank Holiday on Monday, this working week has only lasted 4 days which is always nice! Especially as where I work seems to be getting busier & busier each day! I'm looking forward to letting my hair down on Saturday night after my boutique market, at a party my friend is having to celebrate the end of his university course at his flat. My fiance is on the same course (Architecture) and they officially finish tomorrow, so there'll be lots to celebrate this weekend!

Things I Love Thursdays!

This week, I am loving a lot! As previously posted it was my birthday last Sunday and boy did I get some treats! The most anticipated being my dressmakers dummy! I've been wanting one for so long, and my lovely soon to be Mother-in-law bought me one. I haven't had a chance to work with it yet, but I can't wait to see how much of difference it'll make!

I can't stop wearing my new navy blazer from h&m which I bought last weekend for £20! I was a little scared that it would look to formal, and that I possibly wouldn't wear it often but I'm out to prove myself wrong, and I've worn it out 3 times so far!

I'm getting excited about the flowers in the tin bath that sits on my balcony. I have two lily plants, and one is just about to flower despite coming under attack by caterpillars.

I've been happily munching on birthday cake that was made by my 9 year old niece as desert this week, she even made green icing as she knows that's my favourite colour!

Amongst my birthday presents was a bag of large fabric remnants from John Lewis, which included about 1 1/2 metres of dark grey linen, which I can't wait to turn into some high waisted shorts for the summer!

And lastly I'm looking forward to being taken out on Saturday night for dinner at La Tasca, which is a spanish/tapas restaurant that Alex & I enjoy going to, and the food is really good!
