Finished Project: Mad Men Challenge

Happy Friday Ladies! Another week coming to an end, another finished project under my belt!
This week saw me take on the Mad Men Challenge set by Julia Bobbin.
After much I thought I decided upon an outfit worn by Peggy Olson as discussed here.

Using Vogue 5308's bottom pieces I made this skirt using some wool that my mum gave me.
It was quite fun to sew, and the inverted pleats were simple to make, the hardest part was getting them to lie flat! They still need a bit more pressing really!

The top was actually bought from a thrift store and I still can't get over how similar it is to Peggy's except mine has ruffles too, and doesn't have sleeves.

This was a nice simple project to put together, and I almost feel like I wimped out a bit for this challenge as everyone else seems to be tackling dresses. Hey ho.

I'm so excited to see what everyone else has been working on! If you're participating good luck with the rest of your sewing & I can't wait to see the finished pieces!

The Tale of the UFO's

This week I've decided to tackle that well known enemy amongst dressmakers, the UFO. You start out with the best intentions, and such enthusiasm, but somewhere along the way you get distracted by something prettier. Leaving the poor garment to lay dormant for many months in a pile of stashed away fabric.

Luckily my UFO list is small, I can actually count it on one hand. My aim is to tackle two projects this week, so I am then only left with 3 remaining.
Introducing the pointed peter pan floral summer dress first blogged about here.

This only has the armholes left to face, and the hem to do.
And a mini skirt inspired by the Karl Lagerfeld skirt available on Burdastyle.

This was actually going to be my submission for the Sew Grateful week in February, but I hit some fitting issues and didn't get it done in time. This has the hem to do, and the waistband to alter.

Hopefully my will to succeed this week will finally see these UFO's completed!

Quick Project..

Another week has passed, and I do have some news on the sewing front!
In an attempt to get me out of this sewing funk, I am taking park in Sew Grateful, the challenge concocted by Debi (click here for the deets).
I've selected what i'm guessing is a late 1980's, possibly early 1990's Vogue pattern that my mum picked up in a charity shop for me, but am a little undecided on which fabric to use.
More details will be posted next week.

However, in preparation for this I decided to set a small challenge to myself as I haven't touched my machine for around 1 1/2 months! Eeek!!
I was given a black skirt by my sisters neighbour who decided she didn't want it, and thought I could do something with it. She was right. It was originally a size 20 (UK), so was rather large on me! I've simply taken the skirt in by adding some gathers, and re-sized the waistband. I've also given it a new button as the old one wasn't to my taste.

I've still got to take the length up as it skims the floor on me, even with my long legs!
I did toy with the idea of leaving it long as I don't have a maxi skirt, but my husband commented that I looked like a Victorian school teacher so I thought it might be best to lose a few inches from the hem!

I'll post a pic at the weekend showing you the finished project!
