Whoops!

I seem to have forgotten all about my blogging duties lately! Despite my absence I have still been sewing up a storm, actually that's a lie, its been more like a small puff of wind.
But I have finished my Butterick dress that I was previously working on, however there are few minor adjustments I'd like to make to it before taking photos for you all.

I've also started working through all the fabric I picked up at Walthamstow Market, starting with this.
This is made using Simplicity 5645, which is the same pattern used for my blue leopard print shirt. I made sure to lengthen the tie this time so I could make a big bow. I've been wanting to incorporate more yellow into my wardrobe, and so far this has had quite a few appearances in my work wardrobe. This also ties in nicely with my Spring/Summer Palette Challenge

I'm also just about to start the muslin for my next little project, which is this beauty,
For the real thing I'm using some chocolate brown polka dot viscose, but for the moment i'm working with white crepe as I have a feeling i'll need to do some adjustments.
Wish me luck!

Spring & Summer Palette Challenge - Fabrics & Patterns

After making my moodboard I started to go through my patterns for some inspiration, and see if I could match any up with the fabrics I have.
So for the patterns I have the following as possible candidates.

Tops

My tried and tested blouse patterns, although it's my birthday next month and I have asked for some Colette Patterns, so fingers crossed for a Violet or a Sencha to join the above!

Bottoms
I need some new skirts for work, so the Butterick and the 1970's McCalls are ideal, I also really want to make another playsuit but I'm not sure about this pattern? I want more of a 1940's style like the ones Q's Daydream has just debuted here.

Dresses
A lot of options for dresses, although that didn't really come as much of a surprise to me! The vintage vogue pattern is actually intended for a 1950's theme night I'm attending in July.

Now obviously, I'm not intending on making everything listed above, this is of course just an idea of what I could make.

Now for fabrics -

Blue

Top: Embroidered Silk, very small amount, maybe 1/2 metre?
Middle: Butchers Stripe Heavy Cotton, again very small amount, possibly 1/2 metre
Bottom: Floral Georgette, 4 metres

Orange

Top: Polyester Crepe with Orange/Blue squares, 3 metres
Middle: African Wax Cotton, 2 metres (I think?!)
Bottom: Pheasant Printed Georgette, 3 metres

Mustard

Drill Cotton, roughly 2 metres.

Burgundy

Polyester Suiting (I believe?), 2 metres.

At this moment I own nothing that's of a khaki/beige colour so this is what I'm keeping an eye out for next.
Any suggestions on what would work well together?

Colette's Spring/Summer Palette Challenge

After reading Sarai's advice on how to put a mood board together, I took it upon myself to have a peek at what's left in my stash and see if there were any recurring themes. To my surprise I have a few pieces of fabric that feature the colour orange, which is not something I usually buy in rtw clothing. In fact the only two pieces of orange clothing I own are both tops, and both are leopard print!

So with this in mind I put together this -

I love the combination of orange and blue together, they suit each other so well. I also found after inspecting my wardrobe that I don't have a lot of yellow items of clothing either, so I've opted for a mustard colour in my palette.

To balance things out nicely I chose to incorporate khaki/tan/sand/beige whatever you want to call it?! I think this will work nicely with the other bold colours I've chosen.

Last but not least, we have burgundy. I love me some red, but as I've already got bright orange & golden yellow I figured having a darker red would make a change. I particularly like the idea of making some shorts in this colour.

I've also given myself the challenge of not buying any fabric with polka dots *gasp*, it's going to be hard but I need a break from seeing those dots under my machine foot!

Finished Project: Simplicity 4484

I'm a little bit in love with this nightdress! This was super quick to sew together and looks so adorable on, but I'm sparing you from seeing me wearing next to nothing, so Peg is modelling this week.
I do have a confession however, the straps are not meant to sewn the way I have done them. I got a little careless when trimming part of the seam allowance on one of the yokes and took a chuck of fabric with it.
After lots of swearing and foot stomping I figured the only way I could salvage it was by adding the straps to the outside instead of being sewn into the yoke.
But that aside, I'm happy with how this turned out. I was a little concerned with how short it may end up being, so I did add a bit of length on to the straps to make sure all modesty got covered.
As you can tell, I also decided to omit the lace. I am going to use it for this pattern, but just not for this version.

In other exciting sewing news I know for a fact a lot of you have taken a peek at the new patterns over at Colette! My favourite are the Iris shorts, I've been after a decent looking shorts pattern for a while so I think I may just have to treat myself! I'm also taking part in the Spring/Summer Palette Challenge which I'm excited about, and will be busy making my moodboard this weekend.

Are you taking part?
